Join us on Tuesday, October 25th at 1 pm ET as Teva Dawson with The Des Moines Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) describes innovating techniques for outreach and community engagement. Teva with the Des Moines MPO, on behalf the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, will discuss their recently completed 18-month planning effort to protect 150 miles of urban streams, and the innovative tools they used to engage the public in develop and building support for the plan.

 

Participants will learn:

  • A variety of community engagement methods including real-time polling via text messaging, focus groups, surveys, paddle outings, river history lectures, and hands-on map drawing workshops
  • At what point during the planning process to use these methods
  • How to engage the media in planning efforts
