About

The railroad segment from Branchville to Columbia is the second oldest railroad in South Carolina. Constructed in 1838-1842 by the Louisville, Cincinnati, and Charleston Rail Road Company, it consolidated with the South Carolina Canal and Rail Road Company to form the South Carolina Rail Road Company in 1844.
