About

Note: At certain water levels, numerous sandbars are exposed all along the Congaree River. Sandbars are great places to stretch your legs or stop for lunch. Remember that some sandbars are adjacent to private property and you should stay below the high water mark. Also, be sure to check water levels before you leave because some or all of these sandbars will be underwater during high flow times.

Alerts/Notes

CAUTION: While sandbars and shorelines are popular places to camp, they can become flooded with little notice due to upstream hydropower dam operations. Tie down your boat or move it to high ground. CAMP AT YOUR OWN RISK! A camping permit is required for sandbars adjacent to Congaree National Park and can be attained at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center, by self-registering at the Longleaf Campground, or by calling the Congaree National Park.
